An impressive mountain range next to the Adriatic coast

The Velebit mountain range is located at the Adriatic coast in Western Croatia. On its vast territory there are two national parks, “Northern Velebit“ and “Paklenica“. With a length of about 90 miles it is the largest mountain range of the Dinarides. This is where nature lovers and passionate hikers can enjoy a huge diversity of flora and fauna. On its western border near the coast you can find typical Mediterranean plants, in the hinterland there is an exuberant vegetation, whereas the easternmost area is caracterised by exotic alpine plants.

There are numerous legends surrounding the early days of the mountain range, among them the tale of  Víla Velebita, the “fairy“ of Velebit" which has been roaming the mountain range. Besides, Velebit is known to be the scenery of several Karl May movies.
