Schillinger Panoramaweg Dream Loop
From the meadow path between Heddert and Schilllingen, you can see the long ridge of the Schwarzwälder Hochwald behind the valley dip in which Schillingen lies. The border between the federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland runs partly along the ridge. Between pasture and arable land, the trail leads to the outskirts of Schillingen.
It takes you along forest and meadow paths to the reservoir near Kell. The 13 hectare lake is a well-known recreation area. You walk along the Lehbach stream to Schillinger Mill. Shortly before the Hellberghof farm, the trail turns off to reach the highest point of the hike. From there you have a wonderful panoramic view over the surrounding, forested mountain ridges. The Flonterbach stream flows down in the valley. Along the stream, it goes around the forest pond back to the Schillingen recreational facility, which is appreciated by day-trippers, hikers and mountain bikers alike. The trail was rated 64 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.
Author’s recommendation
Two well-marked short-cuts offer the possibility to reduce the route to 11 or 13 kilometres.
Botanical highlights in March/April are the daffodil meadows between the Schillingen recreational area and the village of Zerf. The way to the meadows is signposted from the recreation area. A daffodil festival is held annually at the end of March/beginning of April.

Turn-by-turn directions
The starting point is the recreation area by Schillinger Lake.
We enter the barefoot trail through a wooden entrance portal, which is also the starting point of the dream circuit. For a few metres we walk along the Flonterbach stream before turning right and reaching the Fatima Chapel. Here, the bell tower tempts hikers to interrupt the silence of the fir forest by ringing the bell.
We continue to follow the course of the stream to its source, then walk through dense trees towards the village of Heddert. Shortly before Heddert we cross the country road and pass a barbecue area. Here you have your first panoramic view of the Schwarzwälder Hochwald Forest. Along fields and pastures, the path leads us to the village of Schillingen.
Here the panorama now also opens up towards the Osburger Hochwald. After 2.5 km of panoramic trail, we cross a farm track and reach a 3.5 km circuit that leads us to the Kell reservoir. Then our path leads over the dam of the lake towards the camp site and the open-air swimming pool. Immediately before the leisure area, we turn right and follow the signs towards Schillingen. Behind a staircase, we turn left, enter a long tunnel of foliage, cross the L 143 and walk along the Lehbach stream until just before Schillinger Mill. Before the first houses, we turn left over a small footbridge, then over a meadow path and the road “Im Käswieschen” until we finally climb the highest point of the hike over beautiful meadows. This takes us to the next panorama view.
The last part of the tour leads first through meadows, then through a forest down to the Flonterbach valley. We follow the course of the stream and return to the forest pond and the Schillingen recreation area.
